Brommapojkarna (BP) strengthens the mental health of young players in collaboration with PlayWellMinds
Brommapojkarna (BP), largest football club in Europe in terms of the number of active youth teams of all ages, collaborates with PlayWellMinds and uses the "PlayWell7" program to strengthen the mental health and well-being of young players, both on and off the pitch.
Brommapojkarna (BP), Europe's largest youth organization in football, is taking a groundbreaking step to promote mental health among its young athletes through a close collaboration with PlayWellMinds. By introducing the innovative program "PlayWell7" and working with "Teen Mental Fitness" in its activities, BP aims to provide its young academy players with tools to not only perform better on the field but also strengthen their self-esteem and mental resilience in daily life. The decision to invest in this mental training comes from club director Peter Kleve, who sees a growing need to offer support and develop sustainable strategies for youth well-being.
As pressure on young people increases, both in sports and in school, BP's commitment to mental training appears as an important investment. By educating academy coaches in PlayWellMinds' unique methodology, BP's youth gain access to structured programs that help them manage stress, build confidence, and create positive mental habits.
The program "PlayWell7" offers a combination of a user-friendly app and seven educational lectures, specifically designed to provide young players with tools to actively build their mental strength. The app provides daily exercises, tasks based on cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and how to manage and set goals, enabling players to develop long-term habits for well-being and self-awareness.
"Our ambition is for young people to feel as good as they perform. Mental strength is a crucial part of their development both as athletes and as individuals," says Peter Kleve, club director of Brommapojkarna.
Scientifically grounded tools for youth mental health
PlayWellMinds, together with licensed psychologist Lisa Clefberg and sports psychological advisor Johan Fallby, has developed PlayWell7 to meet the specific needs of teenagers in today's digital environment.
"It is a cutting-edge step that BP is taking as they systematically address mental well-being and performance in their operations. It is perfectly timed as we know there is a great need generally among youth in society, while it can also positively impact performance on the field.<em>"</em>, says Johan Fallby
The program, which is grounded in CBT, offers techniques that help young people strengthen their self-esteem, improve their ability to handle pressure and setbacks, and set and achieve personal goals. Henrik Cronebäck, founder of PlayWellMinds, emphasizes that these scientifically grounded tools enable youth to take an active role in their own mental development.
"PlayWell7 is designed to provide young people with the same opportunities for mental training that professional athletes have, and we are happy to be able to provide these opportunities to BP's young players," explains Henrik Cronebäck.
By implementing "PlayWell7" and working with Teen Mental Fitness in its operations, Brommapojkarna demonstrates its long-term commitment to supporting young players' personal development and well-being. The club sees mental training as a fundamental part of equipping youth for the challenges they face, both on and off the football field.
